Get ready for winter before the first cold snap

In 2025–2026, the foundation helped residents of communities in the Kharkiv and Kyiv regions prepare in advance for the heating season and potential disruptions to heating, electricity, and other services.

In Brief

A project to support community residents ahead of the fall and winter season. We worked with people who needed help preparing for the cold weather, primarily in communities near the front lines and those close to the front. We viewed winter preparation as more than just heating: it was about meeting people’s comprehensive needs to get through the cold season in safer and more stable conditions.

The Problem

Why winter in a frontline community becomes a unique challenge

For residents of frontline areas, the cold season brings additional hardships and risks. Damaged infrastructure, as well as disruptions to electricity, heating, and other services, can make winter significantly more difficult.

In wartime, even routine preparations for the cold can become a serious problem. Support provided in advance reduces risks and gives people greater confidence that they will be able to get through the winter.

How We Identified the Need

Through our work with residents. Representatives of the foundation worked with people who needed support ahead of the fall and winter season, primarily those living in communities with increased winter risks.

Project rationale

Goals, Objectives, and Results

The goal was to support community residents in preparing for the heating season and to strengthen households’ resilience to disruptions in critical infrastructure.

Method

How the work was organized

  1. Working with Residents

Representatives of the foundation worked directly with people who needed support.

  2. High-risk communities

First and foremost, communities on the front lines and those near the front lines.

  3. In Advance

Assistance before the cold weather sets in, while there is still time to prepare.

  4. More than just heating

Winter preparation as a comprehensive human need.

We are convinced that a community’s resilience begins with the resilience of its residents. That is why the foundation helps people prepare for crises in advance, before they have to deal with their consequences.
