From surveying a water body to an investment project ready for donors

Boreholes, water mains and treatment facilities put out of service by the war. We survey them, assess their condition against EU standards and prepare restoration projects.

In brief

We survey water systems together with the hromada, assess their condition against EU standards and prepare investment projects the hromada then takes to donors. The hromada sets the priorities itself.

Priorities

Five strands of work in the environmental area

The first priority, hromada water systems, is the one currently under way. The other four are strands for which the foundation is preparing project concepts and seeking funding. The status of each is shown next to its name.

Ecosystem restoration and land reclamation

Under way

Cleaning soils and water bodies of contamination, reclaiming degraded land, and reforesting territories affected by hostilities or industrial pressure.

Climate adaptation and green energy for hromadas

In preparation

Autonomous energy sources for critical infrastructure, social institutions and protected areas: solar, biogas and small-scale hydro solutions.

Managing reconstruction waste

In preparation

Sorting, processing and re-use of construction and household waste at hromada level.

Biodiversity and ecological corridors

In preparation

Protecting natural areas, conserving rare species, and monitoring ecosystems with residents themselves taking part.

Green entrepreneurship and inclusion

In preparation

Eco-startups, environmental education and vocational training for women, young people, veterans and internally displaced persons.

ESG: what we can evidence

Environment: a baseline environmental profile of the hromada's water systems, assessed against EU standards. People: household surveys, with the hromada itself setting the priority for works. Governance: a separate budget and a separate financial report for each project, and a compliance management system certified to ISO 37301:2021. Source materials for each point are available on request.

Часті питання

What is land reclamation?
Land reclamation means work that restores a disturbed site to a condition fit for agriculture, forestry or recreation. The foundation works at the stages that precede field operations: surveying soils and water bodies, establishing a baseline environmental profile, and planning restoration together with the hromada.
Does the foundation carry out field reclamation works?
Not yet. The foundation surveys soils and water bodies, establishes a baseline environmental profile and plans restoration together with the hromada. Wider roll-out of the area is part of a project scheduled to start in January 2027.
Where does the foundation work in this area?
The anchor site is Tsyrkuny hromada in Kharkiv oblast, which adopted its Hromada Development Strategy to 2030 (order No. 01-04/82 of 16.06.2026). The network of partner hromadas is being formed in Kharkiv and Kyiv oblasts; we will publish its membership once letters of intent are signed.
How can we become a partner in this area?
Write to [email protected] or call +38 (063) 185-31-71. The foundation works with donors, hromadas, research institutions and business. Foundation reports are published in the Reports section.
