What spare parts should be transferred with the car for the Armed Forces of Ukraine

A basic set of consumables and maintenance for the front line

When charitable foundations provide vehicles for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, they must ensure not only that they are in good working order at the time of delivery, but also that they have the resources to operate them for a long time. In combat conditions, regular maintenance is often difficult due to limited access to warehouses, services and logistics. That is why the basic set of consumables should cover the needs for at least several service cycles. It includes engine oil of the appropriate viscosity class, transmission fluid (for manual and automatic transmissions), antifreeze with the correct tolerances, and brake fluid.
Special attention should be paid to filters that directly affect the stability of the engine and the life of its components. The air filter gets dirty much faster in the field due to dust and dirt, so it is advisable to transfer several sets at once. Oil and fuel filters are critical for protecting the engine from abrasive particles and low-quality fuel that can be used in a combat zone.
The basic kit should also include items that have a predictable service life and can fail without warning. These are the alternator belts and, if available, the timing belt with rollers. Their breakage can lead to a complete stop of the vehicle or even serious damage to the engine. Spark plugs for gasoline engines or glow plugs for diesel engines ensure stable starting, especially at low temperatures. Their timely replacement helps to avoid problems with starting at a critical moment.
Additionally, it is advisable to transfer a set of basic electrical components: exterior lighting lamps, fuses of various ratings, and relays. These items are inexpensive, but their absence can lead to vehicle downtime or limitations in functionality, particularly at night. Taken together, this basic kit can significantly reduce the time it takes to put a vehicle into operation after delivery and minimize the risk of downtime due to minor but critical malfunctions.

Spare parts for the running and braking systems of vehicles for the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The condition of the chassis directly determines how well a vehicle is able to perform tasks in difficult conditions - off-road, on broken roads or under load. Even a technically sound vehicle can quickly lose efficiency when transferred due to worn-out suspension components. Therefore, it is advisable to immediately transfer a set of basic spare parts: brake pads, and, if possible, discs or drums. In the field, the braking intensity is much higher than in civilian use, which accelerates their wear and increases the risk of losing brake performance.
Suspension components such as shock absorbers, bushings, ball joints and tie rod ends are subject to constant shock loads. Their wear is not always immediately noticeable, but gradually leads to poor handling, longer stopping distances and uneven tire wear. Keeping at least some of these components in stock allows you to quickly troubleshoot problems without waiting for delivery. This is especially important for units that operate in remote locations and do not have quick access to a repair facility.
Special attention should be paid to components that often fail due to dust, moisture, and mechanical damage. Hub bearings and CV joint dusters are among such elements: their failure can lead to serious damage while driving. Having spare dustcovers and grease helps prevent dirt from getting into the joints, and timely replacement of bearings helps avoid wheel sticking.
From a practical point of view, even a limited set of spare parts for the running and braking systems significantly increases the autonomy of the unit. The ability to carry out basic repairs on site reduces downtime and reduces dependence on external logistics. Experience of using vehicles in the combat zone shows that these components most often require prompt intervention, so they should be considered a priority when bundled with the vehicle.

Electrics and engine starting in difficult conditions

The vehicle’s electrical system is one of the most vulnerable in the field, especially in the face of temperature extremes, high humidity, and constant dust load. Reliable engine starting directly depends on the condition of the battery, so it is advisable to transfer either a new battery or an additional backup battery. In cold weather or after long periods of inactivity, even a good battery can lose capacity, making it difficult to start. In this case, starting cables are a basic but critical tool for restoring the car’s operation without assistance.
The starter and alternator are also on the list of high-risk components. Their failure actually puts the car out of service: in the first case, because the engine cannot be started, and in the second case, because the battery cannot be charged while driving. Sending repair kits, brushes, or even a spare alternator or starter significantly increases the chances of a quick recovery of the vehicle’s performance. Additionally, it is worth including basic electronic components - sensors, ignition coils, high-voltage wires - which often cause unstable engine operation and are difficult to diagnose without the proper equipment.
A separate role is played by the lighting system and the ability to connect additional equipment. Properly functioning headlights, markers, and warning lights are critical for safe driving in the dark or in low visibility conditions. The availability of spare lighting elements, as well as basic connectors and wiring, allows you to quickly restore functionality or integrate additional devices such as radios, charging systems, or other equipment. Together, this ensures not only mobility but also stable operation of the vehicle as part of the combat infrastructure.

Reserve for repairing military vehicles in the field

The operating conditions of vehicles in the combat zone imply an increased load and limited opportunities for full repair. That is why it is important to provide a basic reserve that will allow the crew to fix typical malfunctions on their own. Such a set should include complete wheels or at least tires, repair kits for their restoration, and a compressor. Damage to tires is one of the most common problems, and the ability to quickly restore pressure or repair a puncture without evacuating the vehicle directly affects the mobility of the unit.
Equally important is the availability of tools for basic repairs. The minimum set includes wrenches, screwdrivers, a jack, a tow rope, and auxiliary fixing elements. In the field, even simple operations such as changing a wheel or tightening fasteners can be complicated by the lack of tools. Practice shows that crews often carry out minor repairs on their own, so a versatile and reliable tool is a must-have.
A separate category includes general-purpose consumables: sealants, electrical tape, plastic ties, metal clamps, technical tape, and wire. Although these items are not complicated or expensive, they often allow you to quickly fix a malfunction or temporarily restore the performance of a component until a full repair. This approach is based on practical experience: in many cases, it is simple solutions that help to avoid long downtime and maintain the functionality of equipment in critical situations.
